The scale of disadvantage in Sydney is immense and it is easy to label young people as difficult, bad, disobedient, disorderly, unmanageable or even worthless.
The facts tell a different story and the child with any of the above labels often has many layers of disadvantage before education is even considered.
We know that disadvantage can be solved but it is a multi-multidisciplinary action, our part of this is to give young people who would otherwise go without an education, an opportunity for a better standard of living and better health outcomes.
We work in schools with young people who are at risk of or who already have disengaged from school. We have worked with them for over 25 years, this year alone placing 2000 students with host employers. We have collaborations with many community services and schools for example this year we had 16 schools referring 150 students.
