We have a few prerequisites for the dogs that take part in our Canine Assisted Learning program. CAL dogs need the physical and emotional maturity to participate happily with the students each session. We are not looking for perfection, just personality and potential!
These are a few key traits that CAL dogs mostly have:
- Being sociable – dogs that love people and like other dogs.
- Can handle exuberant affection – dogs that can cope with enthusiastic patting and play.
- Basic obedience – dogs that that are willing to take part in activities with young people, walk happily on a leash, sit, lie and stay.
- Gentle when needed– dogs that can enjoy chill-out time and accept treats gently.
